June 2017 Monthly Meeting

Posted on April 18, 2017August 13, 2017 by Becky Wolary

We were delighted to have Élise Cormier speak at our June 19th meeting.  Her presentation explained how to incorporate a learning environment into our neighborhood, home, or school playground.  She showed us several pictures of different schools and playground which have become a learning environment for children to examine, imagine, and celebrate using all five of their senses.

Élise, noted landscape architect and expert on creative playscapes,  showed us how she incorporates play to grow new gardeners and nature lovers.  A frequent lecturer with the National Garden Club’s Landscape Design School, Élise loves teaching about design, native plants, and playful gardens.  She is principal of Smart Landscapes, an Atlanta-based landscape architecture firm focused on connecting people with nature through sustainable design, and has over 10 years of experience creating parks, playgrounds, and healthy neighborhoods.  Élise is a certified playground safety inspector who holds a bachelors in Geology from Smith College and masters in Landscape Architecture and Natural Resources from North Carolina State University and also serves as adjunct faculty at Auburn University’s School of Architecture.
